Feast Upon My Words...

When Heavenly Father uttered those words, I don't think He meant for us to take Him literally...

Try telling that to the one year old.

And since I won't be near my computer on the actual holiday...

Corky's Cake

We spent the weekend at my family reunion for my dad's side of the crazies, and it was a BLAST!!  We were exhausted when we got home, and Madison was SO disappointed when she woke up today and found out we weren't going back to "the cabin" to play with all her cousins.  We're going camping again this weekend on our mountain and I think she's going to be a bit sad that all her new friends aren't going to be there.  But totally getting off track here!  You are probably wondering who on earth Corky is and what she was doing with a cake... well, meet Corky.

See her name tag?  This is Corky.  She was the main chef who catered for our reunion.  {We rented this awesome place with 13 cabins that each slept 11, 2 bath houses, an open ramada, a flat for softball, a volleyball court, and a dining/rec hall.  It was SO fun!  And they cater all the food so you don't have to worry about ANY of it.  Plus, they had snacks and drinks all day and night.  Paradise!!}  She asked my dad if there was any reason that she could bake a cake for our family.  Anything at all, and my dad mentioned our anniversary.  She was SO excited and spent the whole afternoon working on, basically, a wedding cake for us.

Wasn't it beautiful?  When I thanked her, I told her that we hadn't had a big, fancy cake like that at our wedding {my aunt made one out of styrofoam and frosted/decorated it for display, but we had sheet cakes instead for one reception.  For my hometown open house we had a really pretty but small cake, and then in Clint's hometown we had this absolutely delicious cheesecake that actually Safeway ended up carrying because so many people here kept asking them if they did!  Such trend setters!!  LOL}, Corky started crying and told me, "well then REALLY Happy Anniversary!!"

My Uncle Cory brought us up in front and made us stand there while everyone sang "Happy Anniversary to You" {so embarrassing!}.  It was SO GOOD!  Vanilla cake with strawberries between the layers and a really light whip cream frosting.  Yum!

The rest of the reunion was such a treat and I'm so sad that it's over.  My family is pretty spread out, so we only have reunions every 3 years.  It's hard to say goodbye after JUST getting re-acquainted.  And this is the FUN side of the family too!  The side that gets out and plays sports and card games...  One of the things my grandma did was a fish pond for all the kids.  She spent hours and hours and hours and hours {give you a sense of how much time went into it?} sewing prizes, and Madi was fortunate enough to get the ONLY Raggedy Ann doll {I'll post a pic later}.  None of the kids understood the sentimentality behind that doll, but all my cousins did and I got a LOT of "Oh!  I wish my daughter had gotten a Raggedy Ann doll sewn by Grandma!", half because it's a Raggedy Ann doll and half because it's made by Grandma.  What a treasure for Madison... if we can keep it out of Maelee's mouth!!

::2,190 days ago...::

You know, when you look at 6 years in days, it seems a lot longer than 6 short years.  What happened 2,190 days ago?  It's probably pretty obvious, but today is our 6 year anniversary.  6 years ago I said "Yes!"... and I've been saying "No!!" ever since!  Ha ha LOL  I know a lot of brides freak out on their wedding day, but I loved every minute of ours.  We were lucky to have such a wonderful photographer, and I tried to narrow it down to just a few to share... yeeeeeeah.  Enjoy the "narrowed down" list of... 19 pictures. Sorry, but after all it IS my anniversary and I'm still madly in love with the man that swept me off my feet at 19 and if I want to plaster my blog with pictures of one of the best days of my life then by golly that's what I'm gonna do! :O)

Happy Happy Joy Joy!!

Yay for tax returns!  Ours was WAAAAAAAY late this year thanks to the wonderful workings of A: the state govt and B: the clarity of the county govt.  Long story short, we couldn't file our taxes until we had a SSN for Maelee, which we couldn't get without her birth cert, which we were told would be mailed to us 2-3 months after the finalization hearing in January.  4 months later I did some calling that finally {nixing the part that makes me want to curse here} got things taken care of and we finally were able to file our taxes and thus receive our return.  It's nice in a way, because ours came so much later in the year so we still have it to cushion ourselves for the summer.  But anyhoo... we paid off Clint's truck {yay!!} and bought a new TV and entertainment center.  Yeehaw!!  We are pretty stoked, and any of you who know my husband can understand why I'm so excited.  LOL  He's so good about only spending money of practical purchases that it took a lot of sweet talking {and finally his friend Brian talking} to convince him that this could be justified as a "practical purchase".  {I'm just lucky he plays Halo and realized just how small and blurry our old TV really was!  Thank you Bungee!!}

So here's the before...

...and here's the after!  We're actually going to mount the TV on the wall, we just haven't gotten that far yet.  Isn't it pretty?

It's amazing how much it opens up the room, too.  Plus it's nice to have all our movies out of sight.  SO much less clutter!  I'll post a pic when we've got it completely finished... I know you're all waiting on the edge of your seats, huh?  :O)

::Better than Chocolate::

That's my Clint.  I am so lucky to have the opportunity to call this guy my husband.  He's one of those guys that makes you happy, even if you would prefer to be grumpy.  I'll keep this short and sweet, but I wanted to share 5 things that make this guy the greatest...

100_7934

1.  He lets me freak out.  That probably sounds pretty lame, but when it happens, it's nice to have someone who doesn't get all high and mighty on me.  He lets me work it out and is the perfect balancing act for me, cuz I can then turn around and let him freak out and then we laugh about it.

img_3862

2.  He knows how to relax and have fun.  I absolutely love that he doesn't have to constantly be a busy body.  He enjoys kicking back, playing games, watching movies, horsing around with the girls and conquering the world from vicious aliens in cyberspace with his friends and my brothers and nephews.  So many people loose themselves to video games but he is so good about stopping mid-game if one of the girls wakes up and needs something.  I don't worry about him, and it gives me some much needed time on the comp to edit pics or blog.

100_8108

3.  He is SUCH a good Daddy.  I could watch him play with, love on, snuggle, wrestle, toss around, explore with and work with our girls all day long.  He tells them constantly how much he loves them and always goes out of his way to let them know how special they are to him.

img_3991

4.  How adventurous he is.  This is the first summer in 5 years that he hasn't hiked Havasupai.  BUT, he's going white water rafting in a few weeks!  He's always up for a hike, a 4-wheeler ride, wake-boarding or anything else outside amid nature.  I remember him begging me to camp outside with him when I was 8 months prego... yeeeeah, I vetoed that one!

5.  He has no fear.  I mean, the poor guy lives with 3 girls, nix that, 3 MOODY girls and still has the courage to come home after work!  :O)  He still does back flips {on the ground, off anything into the water}, is the first to try something new and never lets anything stop him.  He keeps in great shape and I think that's a huge part of that dare-devil side of him...

Ok, one more.  I love how much he loves me.  He is so kind, even when I'm a total punk.  He has so much patience.  He makes me feel so good and special and loved and beautiful... what an amazing man.  I love Clint with everything in me and hope all the rest of you are as happy as we are!

Happy Birthday Maelee K!! {Seriously?!}

When did my baby wake up and become a kid?

Maelee007

Today was Maelee's first birthday, and I CANNOT believe it has been a year already.  I was looking at her newborn pictures earlier this week and re-living all the emotions and drama, and marveling at how much has changed in 12 short months.  What an amazing journey we've had the opportunity to travel this past year!  We are SO in love with this chunky hunk of adorable love {and of course squeezy-chubby thighs!}.  And please excuse her dorky hair, she had played in the water before dinner and cake!  :O)

Maelee014

Quick stats:  22 pounds.  8 teeth.  Walking for 2 months {I know!}.  Knows signs for "more, please, finished, food".  Says "Mom, Dad, Maaa {Madi}, hi, hello, here, bear, gma {grandma}, papa, no no, baby, and oh!".  Understands "No!" but likes to push her limits juuuuuust enough so you say it.  Melts our hears.  Gives kisses and runs to give hugs.  Is a Mama's girl.  Total Mama's girl.  Plays hide-and-seek.  Is a complete tease.

Maelee019

She actually slept for most of the day {still recovering from a double ear infection}, but was all giggles this evening for her party.  We invited a bunch of friends over and bought a slip-and-slide for the little people to enjoy {and crash into each other on...} and had a BBQ {we supplied mango chicken with mango and black bean salsa, strawberry lemonade, capri-suns and ice cream, and everyone else brought some kind of salad}.  Everything was SOOOOOOO yummy!  I PROMISE I will post the recipe on the Tried and True Recipe swap blog sometime in the near future.  Just keep bugging me about it and I'm sure I'll get annoyed enough to post it.  :O)

Maelee004

I made her "smashing cake" and was actually quite proud of myself.  I'm no pro, and it was so hot outside that the frosting melted and slid and basically didn't stay quiiiiiiiite where I put it, but I think it turned out pretty darn cute anyhow.

Maelee006

Maelee017pws

She liked it!  I've never seen a child actually bury their face in the cake and go at it!  Too stinkin' cute!!

Maelee013

We got these miniature cones for the kids {they were a little smaller than I anticipated!} that were a HUGE hit!  I don't think many people had only one, which was fine since there were 60 in the box!!  That should have tipped me off, eh?  LOL

Maelee024

Maelee027

We hosed her off, got her dressed and opened presents.  I didn't get any pictures cuz at this point all the Daddies were playing football and I was controlling the level of "help" the other kids offered Maelee K.  :O)  She got clothes from us, a kiss from Madison, a stroller and baby from Grandma Jonnet and Papa Russell, a puzzle from Stephanie and Paul, some really cool vinyl hibiscus stickers from Devin and Beth, matching aprons {one for Madi} homemade by Kachelle, clothes from my sister Yvette, and Michele is going to give her a really cute book about big sisters and little sisters {thanks in advance!}.

Maelee029

It was a wonderful day.  Thanks to everyone who called and texted birthday wishes, and to everyone who made the effort to come to her party.  We really appreciate your love and support of our family.  And once again, a big Thank You to Kiki and her family for placing Maelee K in our care and asking us to love her as our own.  We truly do.

Happy Birthday Baby Girl!

::Disclaimer::

Just FYI, I HONESTLY wasn't going for a pity party {regardless of what Clint thinks!! LOL} with my previous post.  I was just thinking about everything and found it humorous how much sickness we've dealt with lately.  Must mean we've got some amazing blessings headed our way, eh?  Oh yeah, baby!

Holy Toledo!!

I just have to marvel at the mere fact that we are all still alive after the last 2 months!  Whew!  I will try to keep this from depressing you, but my heavens!  This needed to be documented!

So, about 2 months ago I made a super-big-girl decision and willingly had my wisdom teeth removed {owie!}.  The 8-hour pain relief drug only lasted 45 minutes and somehow I missed the bit of instruction {a pretty important tid-bit of advice, it turned out!} to not remove the packing for at least an hour after leaving.  So, my Dad-in-law took me to get a chocolate shake... bad idea.  Anyhow the pain was pretty bad for the next few days, but I didn't think it was a dry socket cuz I had heard those were excruciating and I didn't think my pain was THAT bad {but I still thought I was a pretty big wuss}.  Turns out it WAS a dry socket, and I guess instead of being a big wuss I was actually pretty tough!  LOL  The gaping holes in my head are still healing {no gum for TWO WHOLE MONTHS!  I'm going crazy!}, but it's pretty amusing to freak Clint out with all the food that comes out of those holes.

Moving on... So, while I'm still recovering from all this, Maelee K decides to have a severe allergic reaction to some unidentifiable source.  We're talking purple hives all over her body and fingers and toes so swollen they started to turn green and look like little water balloons!  We put her on a steroid for a week and she was fine... for a month or so...  that's when the month-long bout of diarrhea started.

More on that in a minute.  Don't want to get ahead of myself!

Clint comes home a few weeks after the purple hives incident with a fever of 104.8, which lasted hours and hours.  Needless to say he got pretty loopy and delusional.  At one point while I was putting cold cloths all over his body {because he absolutely refused to take a cool bath}, he kept trying to pull the covers over himself because he was SO hot that the cool cloths almost sent him into convulsions he was shaking so bad.  I told him that it wouldn't do him any good to have cool cloths on if he just covered back up.  I finally had to just sit on the blankets to stop him.  He got all huffy and told me, "Quit baby-guarding!!"  WHOA!!  THAT one took me back about 15 years!  I teased him and he said, "well, that's what you are!  Big baby-guarder!"  Turns out he had a pretty nasty case of strep that kicked his tail for the next 3 days, and then passed on to his nurse... me.  Lovely, eh?

Luckily, neither of the girls came down with it, but I was supposed to take the girls on a road trip that weekend to go see Kiki {Maelee's birth mom} and get my comp fixed.  Nothing doing, that strep knocked me on my rear for a few days.  I ended up going down the next week to surprise Kiki for her birthday {totally awesome day!} and on that trip the girls started throwing up.  I'm STILL trying to get the smell out of the car.  Gross, I know!  Madi's only lasted for a day, but Maelee K continued throwing up for about 2 weeks.  She had NO interest in Pedialyte, and we were so worried about dehydration.  I snuck some into her bottles {like 2oz to 6oz water, plus formula} but it wasn't enough to make us feel better.

Then Clint caught the stomach bug.  Then I caught it.

Then I got really smart and took Maelee into an allergist.  Before she was even born, her birth family told us that a lot of them are lactose-intolerant and so she probably would be too.  She got super plugged up when ever she had normal formula, and it didn't improve when she was on soy unless we put a digestive enzyme in her bottle.  We've been doing this since she was a few weeks old {soy formula and digestive enzyme}, until a few months ago when we weaned her off the digestive aid.  TURNS OUT she's allergic to SOY {hence the purple hives and puffy fingers/toes} and the only way she had been digesting it was the enzyme we had been putting in her bottles.  Once that worked its way out of her system she couldn't handle the soy anymore.  The steroid helped, but when it wore off the diarrhea and vomiting started.  AND, she's NOT lactose-intolerant, her acidophilus is really low {that's a bacteria in your body that helps you digest dairy} and that's why she couldn't handle anything with milk products in it.  SO, she's off the soy formula {yay!} and on milk-based, plus a digestive enzyme again and an acidophilus supplement.  {Man alive, I totally feel like my mother!!!}  Don't laugh, it's the first time in her life that her poor little body has been working right so I'll do whatever I have to!  And luckily, we only have to supplement her until mid-July.  Then her body will be able to take care of itself.

So, for one week she was great and we were all healthy.  It didn't last.

A couple Saturdays ago her eardrum ruptured.  It was pretty gross.  We didn't even know she had an ear infection.  She wasn't showing any signs except a slight fever that came and went {and she's teething so I didn't worry}.  We put her on amoxicillin and a few days later... ANOTHER ALLERGIC REACTION!!  She broke out in hives all over her body again.  Evidently she's allergic to pennicillin and even though she's had it before without a reaction, now that she's had one she won't be able to have it again without benedryl to counter the allergy.  We got her switched to K-flex, but now she has a double ear infection {and is doing a LOT better this week!}.  Yeah, I know!!

You think it's over don't you... not quite.  I woke up Monday morning with strep, AGAIN.  Clint took the day off work to baby me and care for the girls so I could rest {which was nice cuz I could barely get out of bed}.  I had to take the pill antibiotic this time around {instead of that totally ouch shot in the rear}, and let me just say that I would take the shot over this slow recovery ANY day!  It's Wednesday and I still flinch when I swallow.

You know, it may not sound like it but I swear that we usually, USUALLY don't get sick very often!  LOL  If you actually read all of that... good job.  Thanks for letting me write it all down so I could laugh at us.  By next week we'll be healthy again and back to normal.  That's the hope at least!  :O)

Millionaire

So I had this super cool dream last night.  I'm not even really sure if something like this is even possible, but I wouldn't put it past some crazy-generous movie star to change the life of this little family.  In my dream, I was on twitter or something like that {I've actually never even glanced at twitter, but in dreams people fly and run really fast, only to move mere inches away from the coming zombie right?  Right.}, anyway... I was on there chatting back and forth with some unknown person and they started talking about large sums of money, like millions and billions.  I laughed and said something original like "I would be tickled with just ONE million, let alone multiples.  Can you even imagine how much that would change your life to just have ONE million dollars handed to you?"

Well, turns out that in my dream I was chatting with some rich and famous millionaire who then decided to grant my wish and give me a million dollars, tax-free.  {How the tax-free thing happened in today's economy, I dunno.  Dreamland has a more responsible government I guess!}

The crazy thing is that the things we decided to do with this ridiculously large amount of money was SO realistic for Clint and I.  First, we paid tithing on it.  Second, we turned around and gave a gift of $10,000 to each of our siblings and our parents {we got a gift, why shouldn't they?!}.  Third, we paid off our house and kept it as a rental because we were able to buy land and build our dream house.  We got an SUV for me and a full-size truck for Clint, and established an account with enough money to cover insurance and registration on the 2 of them.  Then we set up an account for our next adoption, and one for each of our girls.  We invested some and put the rest in savings.  Clint kept his job cuz honestly, a million dollars can do a lot in the here and now, but tomorrow it's gone.  I continued to pursue photography and we went on living our lives.

It was pretty cool.  One of those nice dreams that you wake up smiling from.  But, I have to say that when reality set in this morning, and I realized our finances hadn't been magically taken care of by some overly generous rich person with a million bucks to spare, I looked over at my husband - felt his soft, warm hand on mine and listened to him breathe - then down at my 4 year old angel who had crawled in bed with us sometime during the night...  That smile didn't fade from my face as my reality set in.  We may not be millionaires with mansions and flashy cars.  We might not buy everything we think we "just have to have" to keep up with the Jones'... but I think that we are a lot happier than most of those movie stars and other "successful" people out there.  I have more blessings than I do money and that's just fine by me.

P.S. If some successful millionaire out there is reading this and feels compelled to make my dream come true, I sure wouldn't say no!  :O)

Why do we do it?

I am posing an honest question.

Maelee0009

Why?

Maelee0006

Why do we let them make great, big, sticky messes which we then have to clean up?!  Great, big, sticky mess on the high chair...  Great, big, sticky mess on the tray...  Great, big, sticky mess on her hands...  Great, big, sticky mess on her face...  Great, big, sticky mess in her hair, and even one on the floor!

Maelee0011

Maelee0010

Maelee0008

Maelee0007

I will tell you why...

Maelee0003

because we love to take pictures of these wonderful, great, big, sticky messes!!

Maelee0005

That is why, and that is the truth.
